Lifting Magnet Systems, below-the-hook lifting equipment

The mining industry is one of many industries that rely on industrial magnets. While there are some operational challenges to navigate, they can provide countless benefits to the mining process. If your company isn't already using industrial magnets, it may be worth it to take the time to understand how incorporating them into your mining operation can be beneficial.

The Process

During mining, unwanted bits of metal are often left behind from excavation, explosives, and human error. The mining industry uses industrial magnets to separate ferrous particles from the end product, as well as to prevent damage to other mining equipment. Stray bits and pieces of metal can rip conveyor belts and decrease the lifespan of equipment such as pulverizers and crushers. Industrial magnets offer a simplified solution to this problem with quick and easy separation.

Removing Metals & Particles

To remove ferrous particles during mining, industrial magnets are utilized at the beginning of the conveyor system in order to remove metal scraps like bolts and tool bits. They are again used down the production line to remove tiny ferrous particles from the extracted material.

Types of Magnets

Multiple types of industrial magnets are used in the mining industry. Suspended plate magnets are ferrous material separators that are suspended above the worksite’s conveyor belt system. There are also electromagnets, which are very strong and effective in extracting metal from fast-moving conveyor belts. Permanent magnet separators, on the other hand, are more efficient, as they require no energy during operation and can continue working if you lose power.

Cross-belt separator magnets, like suspended plate magnets, are also suspended above conveyor belt systems. The difference is that cross-belt separator magnets are self-cleaning - so they will extract materials and discharge them away from the conveyor belt.

Drum separator magnets are made from ceramic and rare earth magnets, often used for high-volume applications. These move ferrous particles to an outer drum and shift them away from output lines. Drum separators are also self-cleaning, and due to their smaller size, they are also easier to move and operate at the worksite.

Custom Solutions

Like many industries, mining requires customized solutions for its industrial magnet applications. From site to site there are unique requirements, limitations, and budgeting goals that must be met. For the best results, consult with a professional industrial magnet company for a solution that matches your exact needs.
