Lifting Magnet Systems, below-the-hook lifting equipment

Industrial strength magnets are used in a variety of applications across several industries. A company may need to transfer loads to shot blast tables, they may need to lift specially shaped loads, or may simply need to lift plates of various sizes. Each application has its own strategy to best match the task.

Auxiliary Poles

This application is required to lift and transfer plates, flat or round bars, and angles onto a shot blast table. A shot blast table is where metal is cleaned, strengthened, or polished. Shot blasting is used in almost every industry that uses metal such as the automotive, construction, shipbuilding, and railroad industries. The bars and angles are placed on the shot blast table in the same orientation in which they will be shot blasted. Most of the lifts are on flat plates and flat bars, with the occasional angles and round bars. This is handled by adding auxiliary poles to industrial strength magnets. Auxiliary poles are interchangeable on magnets to match different loads. The magnets are engaged while handling the angles or round bars and provide the proper spacing and magnet face contact to ensure a safe lift.

Circular Coils

When lifting coils of steel strips, electro lift magnets are utilized. The coils come in different inner and outer diameters, all with three banding straps. The operator will select rectangular lift magnets with a length decided by the smallest inner diameter and largest outer diameter of the coil range. These industrial strength magnets hang over the load. There may be a varying number of magnets used, which is determined by the space between the three banding straps. If a magnet rests on a single band, the lift capacity is inhibited, as the magnet face will not have proper contact with the load.

Lifting Plates

Lifting plates are positioned in unstacking locations in different arrangements, depending on their length and width. When more than one stack is on a skid, only one stack can be unpiled at a time. For this application, several small magnets are the best choice, rather than fewer, larger magnets. The industrial strength lifting magnets can either be electromagnetic or permanent, and they are arranged into banks so the magnets come in direct contact with the plates. For magnets with electrical controls, all or different variations of the magnets can be energized to lift a single plate at a time.
